Golf - Manassero targets big-time finish
Italian ace Matteo Manassero is hoping to continue his fine recent form by impressing at the end-of-season DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The teenager recently won the Singapore Open and backed that up with a fourth-placed finish at the Hong Kong Open and is 35/1 with bet365 to triumph in Dubai and ensure a share of the $3.75million bonus pool available to the top ten finishers in the Race To Dubai standings. Manassero said: "I was 34th in the Race to Dubai with three tournaments to go and if I can finish in the top ten it would be really amazing. "I am playing well and there's no reason why I can't continue that. I really want to keep it going over the coming days and keep this moment alive." World number one Rory McIlroy is 11/2 to secure victory in Dubai, with Luke Donald 9/1.
Cricket - England mull Mumbai options
England team director Andy Flower says that he and captain Alastair Cook have plenty to ponder ahead of the second Test against India, with the hosts 10/11 with bet365 to win in Mumbai and take a 2-0 series lead. Having been beaten by nine wickets in the first Test, England will have to make at least one change with batsman Ian Bell unavailable for family reasons, but Flowere is considering a number of options. "Of course we have to bring in a batsman, but on any other changes I'd like to see the pitch first," Flower said. "Then I'll try to make a better judgment than the last one. If it looks as though it will turn a lot, we will contemplate two spinners." Left-armer Monty Panesar is pushing for a recall ahead of all-rounder Samit Patel, who scored ten and nought in Ahmedabad and took just one wicket from 37 overs bowled.
Soccer - Di Matteo axed after Juve loss
Chelsea, 5/1 with bet365 to win the Premier League, wielded the axe on manager Roberto Di Matteo after a 3-0 loss at Juventus left the holders facing an early exit from the Champions League. Di Matteo led the Blues to FA Cup and Champions League glory last season, but has paid the price for a dip in form which has seen Chelsea win two of their last eight matches in all competitions. A club statement confirmed: "The team's recent performances and results have not been good enough and the owner and the board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction. "Our aim is to remain as competitive as possible and challenge strongly on all fronts." Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and ex-Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola have both been strongly linked with the vacant Stamford Bridge post, with Chelsea hoping to make an appointment as quickly as possible.
