Welcome
On behalf of the RFL and Super League, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for 2012 and the Stobart Super League XVII season.
This year the official Super League website has even more information and statistics than in previous years and I am sure it will prove to be a valuable reference during what promises to be another entertaining Stobart Super League campaign.
This year we welcome a host of new coaches to Super League clubs with the introduction of Peter Gentle to Hull FC and Craig Sandercock to Hull KR and the promotion of Shaun Wane to head coach at Wigan Warriors.
This season kicks off on the 2nd February and the new coaches and players joining the competition should give an exciting and explosive start to the Stobart Super League season.
2012 sees Leeds Rhinos looking to defend their Super League title and build on the success of last year, when they became the first team outside of the top 3 to win the Grand Final.
Two weeks later, Leeds play Manly Sea Eagles in the 2012 Heinz Big Soup World Club Challenge, a fixture which pits the reining Super League champions against their Australian counterparts from the NRL.
2012 sees the return of Widnes Vikings to Super League following their success in the Licensing process that was conducted throughout 2011. We wish them all the best of luck over the next 3 years and we are sure that they will enhance the competition with their promotion from the Co-operative Championship.
It is going to be an exhilarating year for Rugby League. With so much at stake, this season has all the makings of another classic and I look forward to watching it unfold at all the venues, on television and of course online.
