Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Seedorf, Nesta, Cassano... There have been a lot of exits from Allegri's Milan this summer, with few new faces coming in to replace them and none to get the fans excited. The 'Rossoneri' went down 1-0 to Sampdoria in its league opener at the San Siro, failing to salvage anything after its reaction was a case of too little, too late.
Adriano Galliani left the box before the final whistle, less than enthused by the football on show and musing over possible solutions to strengthen his side before the transfer window closes.
The fans didn't help much, either. It was a lacklustre curtain-raiser, with the white-hot atmosphere for which the San Siro is renowned conspicuous only for its absence. Ferrara's Sampdoria, for whom Eder was superb, fearlessly took the game to a dazed-looking Milan outfit and got its reward when Costa powered a header past Abbiati after 59 minutes.
It wasn't only the defeat that was notable, but rather the widespread doom and gloom around the ground. Allegri's substitutions were particularly unpopular, with El Shaarawy and Robinho making way for Emanuelson and Pazzini, who recently joined from Inter. The coach has made it clear that he needs more firepower going forward.
