Australia midfielder Tim Cahill is set to end his time in England by leaving Everton to join MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.
The 32-year-old is poised to fly to the United States to finalise the deal, which would see Cahill depart after eight years at Goodison Park, having scored 68 goals in 278 appearance in all competitions.
The departure of Cahill seemingly sets the way clear for Steven Pienaar to rejoin the Toffees on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur, having spent the second half of last season on loan back at Everton.
Everton, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, are 21.00 to secure a top-four spot next term, with Liverpool 3.25.
Meanwhile, Croatian playmaker Luka Modric has returned to training with Spurs, as talk of a potential move to Real Madrid continues to do the rounds.
Modric faces a fine for missing the club's pre-season tour of the USA, with boss Andre Villas-Boas hoping to see any deal done sooner rather than later.
He told reporters: "Hopefully the situation does not drag on because it doesn't help Luka and it doesn't help to solve in any way the situation.
"The situation is not dependent on Tottenham, it is dependent on the clubs who are interested in the player."
Spurs ended fourth in the league last season, but missed out on a Champions League spot due to Chelsea winning the competition and they are 2.75 to finish in the top four again in 2012/13.
