Garcia maintains Roma focus on Sampdoria clash

AS Roma coach Rudi Garcia has refuted suggestions that he will be thinking about Thursday’s Europa League game with Fiorentina when they face Sampdoria in Serie A on Monday.
The clash with the Blucerchiati will begin with the Giallorossi 14 points off leaders Juventus, but peering over their shoulder at the chasing Napoli and Lazio in the fight for Champions League places – with Monday’s opponents also well in the race for Europe.
However, the French coach was resolute in his pre-match press conference, stating: “The Europa League is Thursday, today we talk about Serie A.
“Monday we have to play a competitive team, as we always do. Every player is important to me and we will have Gervinho available in attack and maybe even [Victor] Ibarbo, but [Seydou] Doumbia will need more time to return.”
The drop-off in form from this Lupi side has led to questions over Garcia’s management, as well as doubts over some players’ ability to perform at the highest level.
“Daniele [De Rossi] is a great champion. He is still young and can do everything required, he will help us in the future and by that I mean for longer than just this season.
“Sampdoria are a good team; they are physical and commit a lot of fouls. They brought in some good attackers in January and have been good all season. But now we have to get back to winning at the Olimpico.”
