Guardiola hopes to escape beer bath

Pep Guardiola

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola believes that he can avoid the beer bath with which German sides usually celebrate winning titles if his side are crowned Bundesliga champions on Tuesday in Berlin.

"In any case, I'm not taking a second suit to Berlin," said Guardiola before heading to the German capital.

"Maybe I won't stay out on the pitch after the final whistle and I'll take refuge in the dressing room," added the Spanish manager.

Nevertheless, none of Guardiola's predecessors who have celebrated titles have managed to escape the Bavarian baptism.

Jupp Heynckes accepted it stoically and smiling last season, and Louis van Gaal at least pretended he wanted to escape, but was chased down by his players.

Meanwhile, Guardiola said that the Bundesliga title was the most important one for the team, despite vying to win the Champions League and the German Cup.

"The German championship is the most important title," remarked Guardiola before leaving for Berlin. Guardiola added that he will be "happy and proud" once the title is mathematically secured.

The president of the Bayern Board of Directors, Karlheinz Rummenigge, defined the Bundesliga as the club's main objective at the start of the season.

If Guardiola's side are crowned champions on Tuesday, after their 27th game of the season, he will have managed it with one less fixture played than Jupp Heynckes did when he was in the dugout.
