Serie A Preview: AS Roma vs Torino
Roma are in action again on Tuesday evening looking to open up a nine-point gap on Napoli against a Torino side who ended their four-match losing streak last time out.
Giampiero Ventura's side have lost against three of the top six in the last five games without scoring a goal, but eased to a victory against Livorno on Saturday thanks to a Ciro Immobile hat-trick. Immobile is one of Serie A's top scorers (16 goals in 26 games), while former Roma winger Alessio Cerci has weighed in with 11 and will start up front with Immobile.
Maicon may not be risked for Roma after sustaining a knee injury last time out against Chievo, and the Brazilian trained in the gym on Monday after warming up with the rest of the team. Rudi Garcia confirmed in his press conference that Rafael Toloi will be given his debut in the heart of defence alongside Leandro Castan due to Mehdi Benatia's suspension, with Alessio Romagnoli likely to continue at left back.
There are fewer doubts about the midfield as Daniele De Rossi returns from a three-match ban to partner Miralem Pjanic and Radja Nainggolan, but up front one of Mattia Destro or Alessandro Florenzi will have to settle for a place on the bench with the other playing alongside Francesco Totti and Gervinho in attack.
Ventura has not overseen a win against Roma since coaching Cagliari to a 4-3 win against the Giallorossi on 10 January 1999, while the Giallorossi have won eight of the last nine games between the sides in all competitions at the Olimpico.
