AVB gives up on Brazil striker
Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has signalled an end to his club's attempts to sign Brazil striker Leandro Damiao.
The 23-year-old Internacional forward was one of Spurs' top January targets, but with a deal having to come to fruition, Villas-Boas says that a summer move for the player is unlikely.
We are happy with our strikers' efficiency at the moment and what the other players do for the team.Andre Villas-Boas
He told reporters: "We've approached this market very sensibly. I said in our conversations that if (the Damiao bid) was going to go out of proportion, we would step out of it.
"We have made it public before that he is a player that we chase, but we couldn't agree on the full conditions, so we've moved on. It's probably finished now."
Spurs are left to finish the campaign with just two frontline strikers, Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, although youngster Harry Kane has been recalled from a loan spell at Norwich City.
Adebayor is currently away on international duty with Togo at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Defoe has enjoyed a fine season to date, scoring ten times in the Premier League.
Villas-Boas added: "We have scored goals from different players this season, it is part of our team's characteristics.
"Obviously Jermain Defoe is the leading guy, he has been lethal this season. We are happy with our strikers' efficiency at the moment and what the other players do for the team."
Spurs are 2.10 to go on and secure a top-four finish this season, while they are 2.15 to win at West Brom on Sunday, with Defoe 6.00 to open the scoring at The Hawthorns.
