Newcastle need cup final mentality - Pardew
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew believes his players must change their approach to games in order to make sure they avoid a relegation battle.
Despite winning for the first time in seven Premier League matches against Aston Villa on Tuesday the Magpies remain just four outside the drop zone.
That gap could be reduced in the next two weeks as well as the Toon face back-to-back games against top four contenders Chelsea and Tottenham.
The Blues are Saturday's visitors to St James' Park and Pardew is hopeful his new-look Newcastle side can claim the scalp of the European champions.
Pardew's men are 3.80 to beat Chelsea, who are 2.10 to get back to winning ways after Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Reading.
The Magpies manager says his players must have the right attitude if they are to beat Saturday's opponents and wants to create a cup final atmosphere in the dressing room before kick-off.
"Obviously, there is one massive target which we mustn't lose focus on, and that's to stay in the Premier League," said Pardew. "We are just going from game to game with a cup final mentality, and we will take that into Chelsea."
This weekend's game will be the first chance many Newcastle fans have had to take a look at last month's arrivals in the flesh, with Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran poised to make their home debuts.
Pardew could also include Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Massadio Haidara in his match day squad after splashing the cash in order to stop Newcastle's slide towards the relegation zone.
Saturday's match will also see the return of Demba Ba to his former club and the Chelsea striker is 4.75 to score first.
