Wenger rules out 'ordinary' signings

arsene-wengerArsene Wenger insists he will not be pressurised into signing "normal" players as the transfer window draws to a close.

The Arsenal manager concedes the team, who are now 2.25 to finish in the top four, would be helped by quality signings but points out they are not easy to find in January. Wenger says he will not bow to pressure to buy for the sake of it and prefers to concentrate on giving his younger players a chance.
What is important is that you bring in players who can strengthen your team, or you do nothing.Arsene Wenger
"I have to be strong enough to resist," he said.
"What is important is that you bring in players who can strengthen your team, or you do nothing, you're strong enough to do nothing.
"We could do with top quality, one more, but you have to find him. If I bring a normal player in, I give the club a problem.
"It is for four years and I am stopping the young players to give him a chance. The second thing is even more damaging because we have two or three young players with a good chance to play for us."
Arsenal host Liverpool, currently one place below them in the table, on Wednesday evening. Wenger will be boosted by the return of defender Thomas Vermaelen from an ankle injury, while Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Santo Cazorla are set to start after being dropped for the FA Cup win over Brighton.
The Gunners are 9.00 to win 2-1, and 3.50 to keep a clean sheet.
