Manchester United’s bid for silverware this season will have to continue without midfielder Darren Fletcher, who has undergone surgery on a chronic bowel condition.
The 28-year-old Scotland international has featured ten times for the Red Devils this season, but has been sidelined since Boxing Day and will now miss the remainder of the campaign.
A club statement confirmed: "Darren will be unavailable for the remainder of this season, having undergone surgery to resolve his ulcerative colitis condition.

"Whilst it is frustrating for both Darren and the club that he won't be able to contribute further during this campaign, this decision has been taken with our full support in the best interests of his long-term health.
"We look forward to him returning next season with this problem firmly behind him."
United currently lead the way in the Premier League by seven points, while they are also through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, where they will face Real Madrid in the last 16.
The Old Trafford outfit are 1.28 to win the Premier League and 13.00 to be crowned champions of Europe for the fourth time in their history.
Meanwhile, United veteran Ryan Giggs remains content to focus on playing and worry about a possible new contract at the end of the season.
He added: "It is like previous seasons, I am quite relaxed about it."
