James Milner has served notice that he intends to fill the giant size 12 boots of Yaya Toure in the Manchester City midfield.
Roberto Mancini's men could be without Toure for the next month if he leads the Ivory Coast all the way to the Africa Cup of Nations title, with the tournament set to get underway in South Africa.
I think I have shown since I have been at City that my best games have been in the middle.James Milner
Toure has established himself as one of the most important components in City's star-studded squad over the last couple of seasons, but Milner is determined to remind a few people at the Etihad Stadium that he is a more than capable deputy.
The England man is confident he can play his part when the Blues aim to cut the gap at the top of the table to four points this weekend when they host Fulham.
Milner insists: "I think I have shown since I have been at City that my best games have been in the middle, consistently, when you are not relying on other people to bring you into the game.
"I know it's a team game and the team comes first, so if I am asked to play wide I will do it to the best of my ability. I am just enjoying every time I get out.
"Yaya is a massive player for us, a top, top player and he has shown since he has been at the club how good he is and how important he is to us.
"But we have a lot of very good players in this squad who, if required, can come in and do an equally good job."
City are 1.25 to defeat Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday and are 7.00 to win by a 2-0 margin, with Milner 15.00 to open the scoring.
