Ferguson shuns one-man team claim - Betting news
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed suggestions not all of his Manchester United players have been pulling their weight this season.
The United boss is noticeably irked by continued accusations the Red Devils are too reliant on free-scoring striker Robin van Persie.
It doesn't stand up to see us as a one-man team.Sir Alex Ferguson
Van Persie has scored 21 goals so far this campaign and is now set to take over the penalty-taking duties from Wayne Rooney, who missed the tenth spot kick of his career in the midweek FA Cup victory over West Ham.
The 29-year-old Dutchman will be looking to add to his impressive goals tally when he returns to north London this Sunday to face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
Spurs inflicted a 3-2 defeat on United at Old Trafford earlier this season and Andre Villas-Boas' team will want to keep up their own push for a top-four finish.
Ferguson, however, insists opponents would be foolish to assume the mantra, stop Van Persie, stop United.
The Red Devils chief said: "Yes, Robin is top scorer in the Premier League and has 21 goals in all competitions for us, but Javier Hernandez has weighed in with 12 while Wayne Rooney is on 10.
"Two defenders - Patrice Evra and Jonny Evans - have chipped in eight goals between them, so it doesn't stand up to see us as a one-man team."
United are 2.40 to take all three points at White Hart Lane, with Van Persie 4.75 to open the scoring, while the Dutchman is 1.80 to be the leading scorer in the Premier League this season.
