Martinez and his resilient squad are currently 17th but are only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference and are 1.40 to survive the drop and 2.75 to be relegated.
Ramis has featured in 14 Premier League games this season, scoring two goals in the process, and despite being ruled out of this campaign, Martinez is relieved as to the extent of his injury and the defender's long term-future at the club.
Martinez told the club's official website: "Nothing can disguise the fact this is a massive blow, because Ivan is a key member of the group, but we are relieved that the injury is not as severe as we feared it could have been.
"The most important thing now is to think of Ivan's welfare, get the operation completed and for him to begin his rehabilitation."
It remains to be seen to whether Martinez will look into the transfer market in order to strengthen his defence, but he is sure to get an indication of the strength of the squad when the Latics travel to Bournemouth in an FA Cup third-round replay tonight.
The price for Wigan to win the match in 90 minutes is 2.50 while Bournemouth are 2.00 to qualify against the Premier League side.
