Shawcross commits to Stoke cause
Stoke City skipper Ryan Shawcross has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a new long-term deal at the Britannia Stadium.
The rock-solid centre-back had been linked in the press with a move to Premier League champions Manchester City, who were looking to add extra options to their defence.
However Shawcross, who has been with the Potters since 2007, has put pen to paper on a new five-year-deal with the Staffordshire outfit.
Stoke manager Tony Pulis was delighted to reveal the news regarding the England international and is looking forward to having Shawcross at the Britannia Stadium for the long-term future.
He said: "It's fantastic for us as a football club. We're really, really pleased to have him.
"He's been the bedrock of what we've been trying to do over the past five or six years and we're really pleased that he's finally agreed."
Stoke are next in action on Saturday when they face Championship outfit Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
The Potters are 2.40 to win, 3.30 to draw and 2.90 to lose to the Eagles at Selhurst Park this weekend.
