Myler hungry for Challenge Cup glory
Wednesday 28th July 10
After becoming the most expensive teenager in Rugby League history when he completed his move from Salford to Warrington Wolves at the end of 2009, Richie Myler is looking to get his hands on one of the richest prizes in sport this summer, the Carnegie Challenge Cup.
Now 20, the scrum-half is aiming to put some recent injury woes behind him by playing a pivotal role in Warrington completing back to back Wembley wins for the first time in their history.
Before the final, however, the Cup holders must first overcome semi-final opponents Catalans Dragons at Stobart Stadium, Widnes, on Sunday (3.30pm) when motivation will not be a problem for Myler and his team-mates.
“Getting to the final means everything, it’s always been my dream to play at Wembley and hopefully I’ll get the chance to do that this year,” said Myler, who is still smarting from Warrington’s defeat by the Catalans in Perpignan last week.
“They gave us a great wake-up call when they turned us over at their place so we’re in for a tight game and it’s going to be a tough match. We’re going to have to be on our game,” he said.
“I didn’t have the best of games last time out, I know I was under-par but in Rugby League you get to do it again next week.”
With the prospect of a Super League and Cup double still in the offing, Myler’s first season at Warrington could be a fruitful one.
“We’ve been doing well so far but we know we still have a long way to go if we want to do a double or if we want to win something this year,” he said.
“We’re trying to get our performance right because we’ve not been at our best of late, so if we get that right we’re in with a good chance.”
